Canby 3rd Graders Explore Agriculture
at NWREC Field Day

This past May, 285 third graders from Canby School District visited the North Willamette Research and Education Center (NWREC) for an unforgettable field day. This interactive, four-hour event introduced students to the world of agriculture through engaging educational stations hosted by NWREC faculty and staff.
Students explored vegetables, berries, orchard crops, Christmas trees, and more, gaining hands-on experience with farming practices. A highlight was the 4-H station, where youth learned about plants, animal science, and future opportunities in 4-H and FFA programs.
The event was a collaborative effort among NWREC, Clackamas Extension, Clackamas County Extension Small Farms and 4-H, Canby FFA, and local partners, providing a unique opportunity for students to connect with regional experts and discover a potential passion for agriculture.
This partnership between educators, researchers, and community organizations fosters early agricultural education, inspiring the next generation of farmers and agricultural professionals.
