Clackamas County Master Food Preservers Cultivate Leadership Through Volunteerism

In 2023, the Clackamas County Extension’s Master Food Preserver Program blossomed into a dynamic training ground for future leaders. Volunteers spearheaded a successful series of continuing education classes on sourdough, pie/pastry crusts, and tortillas. From securing guest speakers to managing logistics and fostering group camaraderie, they took ownership of every detail. This hands-on experience enhanced their food preservation skills and nurtured crucial leadership abilities. Many volunteers embraced further development, attending advanced bread-making workshops at the Food Innovation Center, demonstrating their commitment to continuous learning and growth. This inspiring program exemplifies volunteerism’s power in fostering community enrichment and personal development. While the Spring 2025 volunteer training is full, future opportunities will be announced.
